With five senators absent, the vote was 18 for override and 13 against. A majority of 24 yes votes was needed to approve the override, however. So even if all five of the absent senators voted in favor, the bid to override still would have failed.
Two members of our local legislative delegation were absent: Sen. Len Suzio, R-13th District, and Sen. Henry Martin, R-31st. All of the other members from our region voted in favor of override, including Sen. Eric Berthel, Sen. Joan Hartley, Sen. George Logan, and Sen. Joe Markley.
Unfortunately, this effort -- which indisputably would have helped to create more manufacturing jobs -- will have to wait for the new governor, whomever that will be.
