Chamber Intiatives

Through the Public Policy Committee, Chamber members take an active role in the public policy arena.  By participating in agenda-setting meetings and attending events such as the annual Legislative and Municipal Breakfasts, State of the State Dinner, Chamber members are provided the opportunity to meet, build relationships, and discuss important business issues with town officials, state senators and representatives.

Each year before the start of the winter's Legislative Session of the General Assembly, the Chamber's Board of Directors, on behalf of the membership, endorses a legislative agenda presented to legislators in early January.  In addition, the Public Policy Committee develops a Mayoral Scorecard to track the Mayors progress on issues that are important to the business community. Lastly, every two years, with the election of mayor in the City of Waterbury, the Chamber's Board of Directors endorses a municipal agenda.

Sample Letter opposing a bill:

Dear (Local Legislator),

As this Legislative session comes to an end I would like to use this opportunity to thank you for all of your hard work on behalf of the Waterbury Regional Chamber and its over 1000 members. Preventing the passage of bills that are detrimental to doing business in Connecticut is crucial to the future well-being of our economy and your work is commended.

There are many bills that are potentially harmful to businesses throughout our state and I am writing to you, my elected official, asking that you consider my position in opposing/supporting (BILL #). Connecticut is already one of the most expensive states in the Northeast to conduct business in and we cannot afford to lose any more jobs to other, more affordable states. The passage of this bill would not make Connecticut a very attractive place to do business.

Thank you for your consideration.
