The Waterbury school system of three high schools, five middle schools (including one with special services) and 19 elementary schools serves approximately 15,000 students with a faculty of 1,100. 77 percent of the teachers hold advanced degrees. Highlights include: 

 * All-day kindergarten in all elementary schools. 
 * Computers integrated into the curriculum beginning in kindergarten.
 * Foreign language education in grades 6 - 12.
 * New curriculum in reading and language arts. 
 * Extensive vocational training, including programs in business and office skills, available in grades 11 - 12. On-the-job instruction and allied health training at local hospitals are also part of the program.

Three magnet schools, devoted to technical education, language arts and the performing arts, are also part of the Waterbury school system.
